A very involved and knowledgeable group of 44 talented minds from all over Ontario and Quebec spent a week at our Summer Math Camp. Organized since 2000, the camp’s goals is to expose high school students to the various fields of study to which they can apply their math skills.
The Fellows Program was instituted to recognize mathematicians who have made very significant contributions to the profession and to the Canadian Mathematical Society. It recognizes CMS members who have contributed to mathematical research, teaching, or exposition; as well as having distinguished themselves in serve to Canada’s mathematical community. Several researchers received funding through a new tri-council program, New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). The new funding program designed to support risky interdisciplinary research will support various projects.
On March 22-23, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics hosted the Canadian Mathematics Department Chairs meeting. Directors and Heads from all Mathematics and Statistics department in Canada exchanged thoughts and ideas on research and teaching of the subject. The highlights of the event included a talk by Dr. Mona Nemer, Chief Science Advisor of Canada, and a presentation on future of research funding by NSERC.
