Congratulations to the Data Science Group of the University of Ottawa (Hubert Haoyang Duan, Gaël Giordano, Stan Hatko, and prof. Vladimir Pestov), this year's First Place Winner of the Cybersecurity Data Mining Competition (CDMC). An interesting feature of their work was that the algorithms that they used were new and based on some ideas from pure mathematics (e.g. descriptive set theory) which had never been previously applied in data science. Their award and prize will be presented on November 3rd at the ICONIP 2013 banquet in Daegu, South Korea.
